Excelsior Jet 3.7 now available; JCP accepts MIDP 3.0 JSR; and more

Excelsior Jet 3.7 now available

Excelsior has updated Jet 3.7 to support J2SE 5.0. Excelsior Jet is a JVM enhanced with ahead-of-time (AOT) compilation, which changes classes and JARs into binary executables.

JCP accepts MIDP 3.0 JSR

The Java Community Process has accepted a new Java Specification Request for development of Mobile Information Profile (MIDP) 3. Development will start on MIDP 3.0 as JSR 271. In other news, the expert group for JSR 222, Java Architecture for XML Binding (JAXB) 2.0 has posted an early draft of the specification. An early draft has also been made available for JSR 250, Common Annotations for the Java Platform, which aims to ensure consistency among individual Java annotations.

ASE updates Java chart library

Advanced Software Engineering (ASE) is now shipping ChartDirector for Java 4.0, the company’s Java chart library. Version 4.0 includes comprehensive support for meters and gauges, new technical indicators in financial charts, unlimited number of axes per chart, and bars and columns with arbitrary polygonal shapes.

Caphyon updates Advanced Installer For Java

Caphyon has released Advanced Installer For Java 2.5, a Windows Installer authoring tool with built-in support for Java applications. This latest version adds support for creating 64-bit packages, for removing files and folders during install or uninstall operations, and for removing registry key and value on install operations. Version 2.5 also includes UI improvements and bug fixes.

ORBexpress launches tool for real-time Java apps

Objective Interface Systems has introduced ORBexpress RT for Java, an embedded middleware solution for real-time Java applications that supports Sun Microsystems’ Project Mackinac, an implementation of the Real-Time Specification for Java. ORBexpress RT for Java allows developers using Mackinac to create real-time distributed applications.

PrismTech launches real-time tool for distributed object computing

OpenFusion RT for Java is a real-time ORB for the Real-Time Specification for Java. Developed by PrismTech, OpenFusion RT for Java is CORBA-compliant, and supports multithreading and Portable Interceptor Specification.

Embedded Java Community debuts on java.net

Java.net has launched a community for the embedded developer. The Embedded Java Community will serve as a source for embedded Java-related news, press releases, articles, tutorials, educational courses, email lists, and forums. The site will also provide a place to house embedded Java-related software and hardware projects.
