Follow-ups on JBuilder, JavaFX

As I noted yesterday, Embarcadero shelled out big bucks for what seems like a dying business in IDE maker CodeGear, and the smart folks at Softdevtools did some number crunching on the buy: CodeGear went for about half of the division’s total annual revenue (not profit, it’s important to note). Softdevtools thinks that Embarcadero can bring a small-company, cost-cutting mindset to a division whose free-spending days are over. Also, at least one JavaOne attendee seems to have bought JavaFX as the new new thing. Michael Bien proclaims Java 6 and JavaFX together to be Web 3.0. Overstated? Will the next wave of Web technologies even be called “Web 3.0”? I doubt it, but then I didn’t think “Generation Y” would catch on either.
