So, JavaOne attendees: What initiative do you think Sun’s pushing hardest this year? There’s been lots of buzzing about GlassFish, but from this remove it looks more like JavaFX is what they’re keeping their fingers crossed that it will really catch on. Sun’s entry into the still-embryonic but increasingly crowded Rich Internet Application buzzword-zone isn’t fully baked yet, but the company made sure to launch the new JavaFX Web site at its flagship developers conference — though slew of commentors on Joshua Marinacci’s blog post announcing the site’s launch found the site to be half-baked as well. Still, industry analyst Michael Cote admits that JavaFX is lagging a bit behind competitors like AIR and Silverlight, but asks, basically, “So what?” — a legitimate question in such a new space. Our question is, will RIAs turn out to be anything at all, or will competing, mutually exclusive platforms drive developers away from all of them?
