Over on Terrence Barr’s blog, there are some nifty pictures of the newly released Lightweight UI Toolkit, which he dubs “Swing for mobile Java, but better.” Apparently it’s been in the works internally for a couple of years, but is now available as open source. To my eye, it looks to bring Java ME UIs up into the same class as Android and the iPhone, or at least close. One commentor asks a cogent question: Where does this fit in with Sun’s JavaFX strategy, the new new thing, which is supposed to have a mobile future as well? Barr promises an FAQ item on this; stay tuned. Software Development
