Niclas Hedhman has some cogent thoughts on how OSGi can help solve dependency hell. It’s interesting that he favorably compares OSGi to Maven, which actually has a good reputation as a dependency management tool — but trouble lurks in the version numbers, as he points out. Meanwhile, despite discussion of OSGi on wonderful and important Java sites, it turns out that a good portion of Java developers are still unfamiliar with it, at least according to a totally unscientific small sample-size poll. Why the low profile?
