The thinning of the Java tools ecosystem

Here’s a potentially alarming statistic from InfoWorld: four vendors — IBM, Oracle, Genuitec, and CodeGear — now control 95 percent of the commercial Java tooling market. And in open source, what you’re seeing is more and more tools built on Eclipse (heck, this applies to the commercial market too). So, do you think that this represents a logical consolidation around the best offerings out there? Or is the Java ecosystem losing a certain amount of vitality?
