Anatomy of a blog blowup

How does rage ripple across the rather insular world of Java blogs? Well, here’s a good example. First, Warner Onstine writes a post in which he basically praises Maven, but gripes that its support for the non-Java JVM languages he likes to use is lacking. So far so good, but he slaps on the rather dramatic title “Is Maven Going Away?” What follows are two quick responses from Maven developers Brett Porter and Brian Fox that very briefly hand-wave away Onstine’s core gripe (there are “widely available plugins”, you see) and then spend a lot of energy saying that Maven isn’t going away because, you know, they and other Maven developers are working really hard on it. Sometimes I think the one-to-many communication model of blogs gets in the way of actual communication.
