Internetnews.com on Friday ran a piece that was more or less typical about Sun’s sorry financials (the reports of which caused the stock to drop another 7 percent or so). For Java programmers and hangers-on, the most intriguing thing about the story is the description of Sun in the lede as a “server and storage vendor”. The word “Java” appears not at all in the piece, except, of course, as Sun’s NASDAQ stock ticker. The closest the platform comes to being mentioned is in CEO Jon Schwartz’s statement that “Niagara and open source products represent how the company is being rebuilt,” Java presumably now being one of the latter products.
