DigiSlice rewrites WebGain’s Application Composer

July 4 — DigiSlice has released AppComposer, a free visual development environment for assembling Java applications. Formerly sold as Application Composer by WebGain, AppComposer has been rewritten to run on Windows, Solaris, Linux, and Mac OS X.

Digital Airways introduces Kaleido

July 4 — Digital Airways has launched Kaleido, a graphic tool that allows handset manufacturers to design and implement dynamic user interfaces on mobile phones. Kaleido ships with Wapaka, a Java programmable microbrowser for Java mobile platforms.

Flashline updates ASE product suite

July 4 — Flashline has introduced Flashline 4, the latest release of its asset-based software engineering (ASE) product family. July 4 — Broadbeam has released ExpressQ 4.0, the next generation of the company’s ExpressQ Wireless Platform. ExpressQ’s enhancements include seamless network switching for managing multiple wireless wide area (WWAN) and wireless local area (WLAN) network connections; enhanced security measures with LDAP (lightweight directory access protocol) authentication; and AES (advanced encryption standard) encryption.

Systinet enhances WASP Server

June 27 — Systinet has made available WASP Server for Java, 4.6, a Web services infrastructure platform. The 4.6 release features improved support for asynchronous Web services and full support for SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) 1.2. The server also supports the Java Web services APIs, including JAX-RPC (Java API for XML-based Remote Procedure Call), JAXM (Java API for XML Messaging) and SAAJ (SOAP with Attachments API for Java).

June 20 — The JStick Real-Time Java Network Module is now available from Systronix. The tool supports J2ME/CLDC (Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition/Connected Limited Device Configuration) and features a 32-bit aJile aJ-100 Real-Time Java processor. It executes 15 million to 20 million Java byte codes per second.

June 20 — NextApp has introduced Echo Web Application Framework 1.0 and Sierra Toolkit 1.0. Echo is an open source platform for developing component-based, event-driven Web applications. Sierra, a commercial offering for Echo, provides intranet-oriented components and a sample application that demonstrates an intranet.

June 6 — PointBase has announced version 4.6 of its PointBase Embedded database. The updated tool can now connect to multiple databases from a single JVM. It also features increased security.

Jacada updates Web-to-host solution

June 6 — Version 8.0 of Jacada Interface Server is now available. Jacada’s latest Web-to-host tool includes the ability to dynamically add, change, or delete graphical user interface (GUI) controls, style, data, and event handlers via a server-side Java API; session pooling, allowing sessions to be preloaded and allocated to users on an as-needed basis; XHTML compression; and skins.

Catalyst Systems releases Openmake 6.2

June 6 — Openmake is a build management tool offering Ant and make functionality. Version 6.2 eliminates the need for developers to write custom Ant scripts and Java build classes. The tool lets developers create custom build types using Ant attributes and generate Ant build scripts at build time.
