JTail available for free download

ELSID Software Systems has launched the JTail file monitoring system, a Java/Swing implementation of the Unix tail utility. JTail supports multiple open files; the files’ screen output can be suspended, resumed, and single stepped. JTail also supports multiple alarms and filters.

Borland Software Corporation will release its latest application development lifecycle solution for enterprise apps at the end of July. Enterprise Studio for Java integrates the modeling, development, and deployment of Java-based business and e-commerce solutions. SmartMode introduces JSP development tools

SmartMode 1.0 enables JavaServer Pages (JSP) and servlet developers to quickly build Websites with distinct display, business logic, and database layers. The development tools feature documentation and tutorials; tag library support; compatibility with Linux, Solaris, Windows NT/2000, and Mac OS X; support for various application servers including BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, Borland AppServer, and Tomcat; and support for databases including Oracle 8i, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB/2 and PostgreSQL.

Activedit 2.5 uses word processor to publish dynamic content

CFDev.com has updated Activedit, its development tool for Allaire ColdFusion Application Server and JavaServer Pages that allows developers to embed a word processor into a Webpage. The word processor allows developers to publish dynamic, formatted pages on the Internet by clicking a save button. Borland releases JBuilder 5 Personal

Borland’s JBuilder 5 Personal is now available for free download. The product, which builds, compiles, and debugs Java applications, replaces JBuilder Foundation as the entry-level edition of JBuilder. JBuilder 5 Personal offers the latest Java 2 Platform standards and is designed to allow new Java users to quickly start developing programs.

Cirquet and InCert added to Sun’s Forte for Java

Improv Technologies and InCert Software have integrated their software products into Forte for Java, Sun Microsystem’s integrated development environment. Improv Technologies’ Cirquet Platform allows developers to create Java language components that can be deployed across a peer-to-peer network, downloaded on an as-needed basis, and dynamically assembled at runtime to create custom applications. InCert Software’s TraceBack detects and alerts operations personnel to hung or crashed applications. Both programs can now be accessed directly from Forte for Java.

Hewlett-Packard updates Process Manager

Borland TeamSource DSP unites dispersed development teams

Borland has announced Borland TeamSource development services platform (DSP), a collaborative development platform for distributed teams to rapidly develop e-business applications. TeamSource features a high-performance hosted infrastructure, source code management, and integrated business messaging that unites widely dispersed teams and provides a secure environment that scales up or down with development teams as they collaborate across the firewall. Borland will announce general availability and pricing of TeamSource by the end of third quarter 2001.

DWL Incorporated, Sun Microsystems, and iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions, have made available an Enterprise JavaBeans architecture-based transactional CRM (customer relationship management) solution. The e-Business Platform 5.5, the latest version of ATG (Art Technology Group) Dynamo, includes enhancements designed to support the development and management of enterprise-wide Web initiatives with scenario-based personalization and relationship management capabilities. Cape Clear launches RAD tool for Web services

Cape Clear Software has released a beta version of CapeStudio, a rapid application development (RAD) tool that enables software developers to graphically build and deploy Web services. CapeStudio automatically generates code for Java or Visual Basic from Web services description language (WSDL) files, which describe the interfaces to Web services. CapeStudio also provides a graphical environment for defining bidirectional transformations between XML documents and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) messages.
