Sun releases J2EE 1.3

The latest version of the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) supports J2EE Connectors, Java Message Service (JMS), and message-driven beans. It also includes Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) 2.0, increased XML integration, and the enhancements provided by the recently approved JavaServer Pages (JSP) 1.2 and Servlet 2.3 specifications.

Kada and Cisco partner to expand network capabilities

Cisco Systems will use Kada Systems’ Kada Mobile Platform to support Java application capabilities in Cisco’s voice-over-Internet-protocol (VoIP) phones. Powered by the Kada VM, these VoIP phones will provide increased network connectivity, allowing users to simultaneously access Java applications and the Internet as well as communicate with one device.

Merant launches content management tool

Merant’s new PVCS Content Manager 2.0, a Web-based content management tool, enables enterprise content contributors to maintain control of static and dynamic Web content. The product supports Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) and allows users to contribute content directly from existing authoring environments.

Java and XSLT now available from O’Reilly

TIBCO licenses J2EE

TIBCO Software has licensed the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE). TIBCO provides an implementation of the Java Message Service (JMS) and a J2EE Connector Architecture-based integration solution for enabling communication between Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs) and non-Java applications.

Amber Archer introduces open source Java class library

Amber Archer Consulting has released its entire 750-class Java class library as an open source download. The class library offers generic caching and pooling, rules-engine processing, macro processing, platform-specific Java Native Interface (JNI) routines, and Swing widgets.

SilverStream releases development environment for Web services apps

SilverStream Software has launched SilverStream eXtend Composer 3.0 and SilverStream eXtend Director 3.0. eXtend is an integrated services environment for the development and deployment of Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition-based Web services-oriented applications. eXtend Composer creates Web-enabled business functions from enterprise information sources into standards-based Web services. And eXtend Director consumes Web services and delivers them to systems, users, or devices.

Idetix ships Revize 3.5

IBM updates Web Services Toolkit

IBM’s Web Services Toolkit (WSTK) 2.4 is now available for download. The WSTK provides a runtime environment, examples to design and execute Web services, and introductory material. WSTK functions are based on SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol), WSDL (Web Services Description Language), and UDDI (Universal Description Discovery and Integration) and run on both Linux and Windows operating systems.

Denwa certifies Pingtel expressa phone

Denwa Communications has certified the Pingtel expressa phone to operate on the company’s Session Initiation Protocol-based IP service. Pingtel expressa is a Java-based phone that provides a platform for IP voice service providers.

Aligo partners with various J2EE vendors

Aligo has joined the Borland Business Technology Partner Program, the IBM Business Partner program, the Oracle Partner Program, the SilverStream ISV program, and the Sun Developer Connection. By joining these programs, Aligo hopes to ensure that Aligo’s M-1 Mobile Application Server 2.0 can integrate with Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition applications.

Java & XML, Second Edition by Brett McLaughlin focuses on using XML from Java applications. The new edition adds chapters on Advanced SAX (Simple API for XML) and Advanced DOM (Document Object Model), and new chapters on SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and data binding.

Lutris adds JMS support to EAS 4

Sims Computing updates enterprise job scheduler

Flux 3.1 from Sims Computing is a software component that provides job-scheduling functionality to Java and Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition applications. Commercial release of CapeStudio now available

CapeStudio from Cape Clear Software automatically generates code for Java or Visual Basic from Web services description language (WSDL) files.
