Continuing on my theme from last week, on some platforms being more equal than others when it comes to running Java, I read with some interest this comparison between Java running on Ubuntu and Windows Vista on the same hardware. The Linux distro wins (though some on Slashdot have quibbled with the methodology). My question is, where is Sun in this debate? If Sun still has pretentions of linking its financial success to Java, its Solaris OS ought to be actively tweaked to be the best Java platform out there, the way the Sun’s hardware is being tweaked. Now that Java is open source, it wouldn’t even constitute some kind of insidery collusion; still, Sun surely has the best Java engineers on payroll to do the job. JavaSoftware Development
