Nobody took my bait to prognosticate on the future of Java, so I thought I’d highlight a couple of JSRs coming down the pipe that look mildly interesting. Apparently not everyone is ready to abandon Swing for JavaFX, becuase JSR 296 aims to make Swing development a lot easier. The goal is to make Swing easier by putting the boilerplate code into template methods. Then there’s JSR-299, which creates “Web beans,” which are a set of Java EE services from the Seam folks that layer on top of existing components and, naturally, make Java EE apps much easier to develop. (Does it say something about Java that all of the major initiatives include the phrase “make [x] easier to develop?”) Anyway, InfoQ has a good interview with spec lead Gavin King about it, including a potential for overlap and/or conflict with Spring.
