Now you can get increased security with the new jConnect for JDBC 3.0 San Mateo (02/10/98) — Sybase Inc. is announcing the availability of a version of its Java database connectivity software that features enhanced security for Java applets.Through Java applets or applications, Sybase’s jConnect for Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) 3.0 supports secure access to data in Web-based or traditional client/server environments, Sybase officials said. The jConnect product is a JDBC driver for accessing database information from Java applications.Security is provided in version 3.0 via support of the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol for data encryption and authentication of Java applets from a browser to a Web server. The new version also offers 50 percent higher performance than the previous version, Release 2.0, via improved processing speeds. The jConnect product for JDBC 3.0 supports all platforms running a Java virtual machine (JVM) version 1.1 or higher and all Java-enabled Web browsers and servers. The enterprise version of the product costs ,995 per server.Sybase is poised to announce development partnerships with HydraWeb Technologies Inc. and Insession Inc. to enhance Sybase’s Jaguar Component Transaction Server, or CTS, for building transaction applications over the Internet, intranets, and standard client/server networks. The New York company HydraWeb will provide dynamic load balancing to Jaguar, for reliability and data availability.
