The past week yielded a bad news to the Oracle-Sun deal. The EU decided to investigate the deal for yet another 3 months. The official reasoning references the potential threats to the open source nature of MySQL (which I always disliked preferring Postgres to it). But I can clearly see that the real reason behind that decision was our German friend SAP, remeber this ? Will all that lead to the deal not getting closed before Jan 2010? We’ll see sometime soon I hope. Oracle started to invest and support Sun server sales one week prior to the EU decision, and I’m sure that at this point Oracle/Sun are capable and desirous of overcoming any obstacles that might be thrown.
