Sun releases Java Studio Creator for Mac

Sun Microsystems’ latest release of its integrated development environment supports Mac OS X and Solaris. In addition, Java Studio Creator now includes language support for Japanese and simplified Chinese.

IBM enhances Rational package of software products

IBM has announced new and enhanced products from Rational for architects, developers, testers, and project managers. New offerings include IBM Rational Portfolio Manager, a lifecycle solution for prioritizing, planning, managing, and measuring IT projects; IBM Rational Software Architect, a new design and development tool; and IBM Rational Software Modeler, a new Unified Modeling Language (UML) 2.0-based visual modeling and design tool for documenting and communicating a system’s different views.

EJD Technologies updates SourceCafe

SourceCafe 2.4, EJD Technologies’ Java source code generator, is now available. SourceCafe connects to databases compliant with Java Database Connectivity, automatically determines the database’s structure, and then generates compilable code that can communicate with that database. It simplifies database-driven application development by generating JavaBeans, data access layer, Java servlet and JavaServer Pages code.

Sun and Valen Technologies put Jini to use in insurance industry

Sun Microsystems and Valen Technologies have partnered to comarket and deliver a Jini-based grid computing solution for insurance customers. Both companies will offer Valen’s Risk Manager, a decision enabling software built with Jini technology.

Sun announces NetBeans 4.0 Beta 2

Sun has released a second beta version of its open source IDE, NetBeans 4.0. Beta 2 fixes more than 900 bugs, including 65 performance issues.
