F-Secure software available for four Nokia smartphones

Antivirus software from F-Secure will be available for four devices based on Nokia’s S60 3rd edition platform.

The models include Nokia’s N71, E60, E61, and E70, Nokia said Frdiay. F-Secure’s Mobile Anti-virus software has been available in some of Nokia’s other smartphones since 2004.

Devices in the “E” series can download the antivirus client from Nokia’s Catalogs service, the company’s trove of ring tones, games and tools. For the N71, the software will be on its memory card sold with the device.

The antivirus software will be offered on a 30-day trial basis, said Antti Vihavainen, F-Secure’s vice president for mobile security. Users can purchase it on a monthly subscription basis for about €2 ($2.39), he said.

The software will likely be made available in the future for other S60 3rd edition devices, Vihavainen said.

As smartphones have increased in complexity, it has also made them prone to some the same nuisances such as viruses. In 2004, the Symbian OS was targeted by the Cabir worm, which spread via Bluetooth.
