Company announces a major expansion of its business activities in Russia Toshiba is considering building a research and development center in Russia, the company said Wednesday.The center, should it be formed, would work in such areas as software development and take advantage of local high-tech skills, Toshiba said. The company already has R&D centers in Japan, China, the U.S., and the U.K.Toshiba’s intention to study the establishment of a Russian research base came as the Tokyo company announced a major expansion of its business activities in Russia with the formation of a local subsidiary, Toshiba Rus, in Moscow. The new unit was established on Feb. 8 and will start by marketing Toshiba’s overall product line-up from April. It will be responsible for marketing and branding of Toshiba in Russia and will gradually integrate the company’s existing representative offices in the country.
