WebSphere releases push process integration

IBM sharpened its message about SOA last week with a slew of WebSphere software and services to overcome barriers to SOA success.

IBM introduced 11 new products, 20 product enhancements, and eight service enhancements focused on SOA process integration.

IBM led the industry’s SOA push from the beginning, but its SOA vision has been fuzzy of late. The new WebSphere releases will refocus the company for a world that is more process- than technology-led, said Steve Mills, IBM senior vice president and software group executive.

The new WebSphere products reflect that emphasis: AJAX-enabled WebSphere Portal Version 6.0 has a workflow builder that uses the process engine from WebSphere Process Server. An update to WebSphere Business Monitor Version 6.0 adds business alerts and links to reports on performance and historical analysis.

An updated WebSphere Application Server Version 6.1, which now supports SIP servlets, has improved security and identity management. WebSphere Commerce Version 6.0 adds CRM and transaction management.
