Yahoo and venture capital firm Canaan Partners have together invested $8.65 million in BharatMatrimony.com, an Indian matrimony services provider with 7.5 million registered members.BharatMatrimony was founded in 1997, and has arranged online more than 500,000 marriages since then. The company manages more than a dozen different matrimony portals, with each portal catering to a different linguistic group or community in India. The company also has brick-and-mortar offices for those who do not have access to the Internet or are averse to online match-making. Yahoo India will link its site to the BharatMatrimony portal, a company spokeswoman said.Yahoo did not disclose its share in the investment in BharatMatrimony.
