Toby Weiss, who had managed CA's eTrust security software line, assumes the title of president and CEO at Application Security The CA executive who managed the company’s eTrust line of security management software has taken the reins at database security vendor Application Security.Toby Weiss took over as president and CEO of the company Feb. 1. He replaces Jack Hembrough, who will now serve as chairman of the board.Weiss is one of three executives to have fled CA over the past month, as the company struggles to turn around its flagging fortunes. The other two were Sam Greenblatt, senior vice president of innovation, and Gary Starkey, senior vice president of CA’s Executive Technology Advisors. Hewlett-Packard announced internally on Monday that it has hired Greenblatt, saying that he accepted the position of vice president of strategic programs with the company. Greenblatt now works in the office of HP Chief Strategy and Technology Officer Shane Robison, focused on the company’s business development strategy, an HP spokeswoman said.In an interview, Weiss said he welcomed the opportunity to push security into the database area. “There are not too many companies that have very detailed database security [products],” he said.“There have been over 100 million digital identities stolen since 2005,” he added. “What companies need are solutions.” Founded in 2001, Application Security is based in New York with a staff of about 120.This story was updated on February 5, 2007 Technology Industry
