Fujitsu, Software AG partner on SOA Registry

CentraSite giveaway targets SOA architects

If an SOA has a hub, it’s the registry, because that’s where services are exposed. Surprisingly, the top SOA players such as BEA, IBM, and Oracle are better known for their application servers, development tools, and ESBs than their registries.

The indifference of bigger players created an environment in which smaller fish flourish, such as pure-play vendors Flashline, Infravio, SOA Software, and Systinet.

Now Software AG and Fujitsu have decided to wade into that small pond together with new UDDI v3.0-compliant versions of CentraSite, a jointly developed registry/repository that the companies claim to have “tuned” for SOA metadata management.

It’s not every day that two huge companies (albeit with small U.S. market shares) ally themselves to create products to compete against a bunch of startups. That it’s happening is one indication of how tough it is to wedge into the SOA space these days.

To sweeten the deal, the companies are giving away a fully functional Community Edition of CentraSite, hoping to drum up a community of partners and SOA architects, and become a player in standards development. CentraSite Enterprise Edition has more robust reporting and metadata management tools and costs $50,000 per CPU.
