RFprotect Scanner gives network administrators control over scanning, threat prioritization and alerts

Network Chemistry, a mobile security vendor, will unveil this week one of the first solutions targeted at companies enforcing an on-campus no-wireless policy.

RFprotect Scanner will give network administrators control over scanning, threat prioritization, and alerts in addition to the capability of automatically disabling rogue devices.

For device identification, the solution also includes a database, Collaborative Device Classification database, of more than 300 access point manufacturers and more than 10,000 wireless infrastructure devices.

Network Chemistry will open source the complete database as RogueScanner.

Up until now, companies, especially those in banking and financial services, had to deploy a wireless access point in a branch office in order to tell if a wireless device was being deployed in that office, according to Rachna Ahlawat, research director at Gartner. Instead, RFprotect Scanner uses a wired Ethernet connection to the network to keep track and report back to the central administrator when a rogue device comes up.

RFprotect scans all devices that are connected to the network in order to identify rogue access points. It also compares deployed corporate devices against the complete database of network infrastructure devices in the database, said T. Paul Thomas, CEO.

RogueScanner is available now for free download at Network Chemistry.

RFprotect Scanner will be available in the third quarter.
