Titled Agora, it’s the initiative within the Common Services and Components Program to develop a strategic EIP (Enterprise Information Platform), the IT solution that will provide a single, consolidated, accurate view of end-to-end global customer inventory data. Following the Google model, the large-scale infrastructure platform pools, profiles, and integrates data from 15 disparate systems, eliminating problematic discrepancies. Motorola www.motorola.com Motorola: Enabling Rapid IT with SOA Project Lead: Tom McMorris, Center of Excellence Lead — Service-Oriented Architecture Project Description: Selected AmberPoint as its SOA (service-oriented architecture) management vendor to help foster the rapid growth and evolution of its SOA landscape. The SOA project required the integration of multiple solutions. AmberPoint communicates bidirectionally with HP OpenView and IBM Tivoli for end-to-end management. Additionally, AmberPoint’s end-point security integrates with Forum Systems for enhanced Web services security. Several levels of integration were overcome. The first level of integration was between the SOA Framework solution architecture. Motorola has a three-tiered architecture: registry, management, and security. They are developed independently of one another. As a result, Motorola developed integrations either electronically or through processes to provide the user with a simplified facade to deploy services. The second level of integration involves the development of services that are reliable, have the potential for reuse, and have the probability for easy consumption through the application of development and Web services standards. This integration process was created out of the complexity that most IDEs create when generating WSDLs. The third and last integration point deals with the integration within the development lifecycle. One of the chief concerns of many project and program managers was related to impacting project delivery dates. As a result, Motorola has devised a process that minimally impacts the development lifecycle while maximizing the identification and development of new business services.WFI www.wfinet.com Fiber-Grade Wireless Network Deployment Project Lead: Nick DeKeyzer, Senior Project Manager Project Description: WFI designed a Wi-Fi solution for the Westfield UTC Mall in San Diego and integrated it with the mall’s IT network infrastructure. WFI selected ClearMesh Networks’ high-capacity, wireless optical mesh solution, which combines fiber-grade service quality and capacity with integrated mesh-switching capability. The ClearMesh solution is comprised of two products: the ClearMesh 300 node and the ClearMesh Management System. A Metro Grid deployment consists of ClearMesh 300 nodes roof-mounted on designated buildings in the mall. This integrated networking platform combines high-capacity Ethernet switching and low-cost wireless optical transport with business-grade Ethernet service delivery interfaces. Using secure optical transmission, the CM 300 distributes as much as 300Mbps of wire-speed, ultralow latency, and full-duplex service capacity. This allows WFI to centrally manage various traffic overlays resulting from the mallwide Wi-Fi, point-of-sale, and surveillance video applications at Westfield UTC. All this can be done from either the WFI Network Operations Center or from the Westfield site using an authenticated operator-access GUI based on standard Java technology.Wireless Evolution www.wirelessevolutions.com Wireless Broadband Mesh Network: Military Community Project Lead: Jim Harycki, President Project Description: Rolled out a new wireless broadband Internet service to the residents of Gateway Center and Naval Training Center communities in San Diego. Nearly 1,000 apartments will have access to the high-speed wireless Internet service as an amenity provided throughout the two housing complexes. LMH worked with Wireless Evolutions, a fast-growing wireless communications service provider based in Texas, which deployed 39 BelAir Networks wireless mesh access nodes in the two communities to provide secure, reliable high-speed wireless access to the residents of the military housing communities. The ability of BelAir Networks wireless mesh to support Voice over Wi-Fi and video will allow the support of future applications.
