Deal gives Google a foothold in China's fast-growing Internet market Google Inc. and venture-capital firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson ePlanet Ventures (DFJ ePlanet) have taken a strategic stake in Chinese search engine operator Baidu.com Inc., Baidu said Tuesday in a statement.Baidu is one of the most popular Internet search engines in China and claims to have the largest index of Chinese-language Web sites, totalling more than 300 million pages. The company did not disclose the amount invested by Google and DFJ ePlanet.The investment will be used by Baidu to expand its presence in China, extending its reach into new markets, the statement said. The deal gives Google a foothold in China’s fast-growing Internet market to better compete against rival Yahoo Inc. In November, Yahoo acquired 3721 Network Software Co.
