Company to triple the headcount of its services and development operations in Bangalore

BANGALORE, INDIA — PeopleSoft Inc. announced Tuesday that it is more than tripling the headcount at its services and development operations in India by the end of this year. The Pleasanton, California-based vendor of business applications software will add 1,000 people to its Bangalore, India, Services Center (ISC) and India Development Center (IDC).

Both centers currently have a total staff of 400. The IDC became part of PeopleSoft after it acquired J.D. Edwards & Co., another business applications software vendor in Denver, last July.

“The (Bangalore) centers have played a significant role in enabling PeopleSoft to lead the way in lowering cost and improving our customers’ total ownership experience,” said Ram Gupta, executive vice president for products and technology at PeopleSoft. “Our accelerated ramp up plan is a natural progression for us, in direct response to the high quality, rapid output we are seeing from our centers in India, and customer demand for high quality, offshore implementation services.”

PeopleSoft operates the two centers in partnership with two software services providers, Covansys Corp. in Michigan and Hexaware Technologies Ltd. in Mumbai. PeopleSoft has partnered with Hexaware to establish the ISC, and with Covansys for the IDC.

Under a build-operate-transfer model adopted by PeopleSoft, both Hexaware and Covansys place their development and services staff and a management team at the centers, although the investment and overall direction for the centers are provided by PeopleSoft, which has the option to take over the operations at a later date.

The two centers focus on the development, implementation and support of PeopleSoft Enterprise, EnterpriseOne and World product families, for customers worldwide, according to a statement issued by the company.
