23-year TI veteran Rich Templeton to take over on May 1

Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tom Engibous will be replaced in his role as chief executive officer by Rich Templeton on May 1, the company announced Thursday.

Templeton is a 23-year veteran of TI and currently serves as chief operating officer of the company. Templeton’s appointment as CEO is a planned succession, the company said, noting he had been appointed chief operating officer in 2000 and elected to the company’s board of directors in 2003.

In addition to serving as chief operating officer, Templeton has also served as president of TI’s Semiconductor Group and is a former leader of the company’s digital signal processing business unit, TI said.

Engibous, who became CEO of TI in 1996, will transition out of his role as CEO over the next four months, TI said. He will continue to serve as chairman of the company after May 1, it said.
