Data auditing readied for Oracle systems

Lumigent Technologies at the end of June will ship a version of its data auditing software for Oracle databases, providing for audit trails in database usage and protecting data integrity, according to Lumigent.

The company’s Entegra for Oracle product will follow the release last year of Entegra for Microsoft SQL Server. Entegra provides an audit trail for databases that can address regulatory compliance issues, such as those pertinent to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Data integrity is protected because database administrators can track all changes to the database, Lumigent said. Human error can be tracked as well as malicious activity and unauthorized changes.

“What we’re trying to do for our customers is recognizing that there’s an increasing amount of data stored in databases and that data is more accessible than ever,” and enterprises have more accountability for that data, said Linda Haight, director of marketing at Lumigent.

Through Entegra, organizations can ensure end-to-end integrity of financial data, detect and analyze breaches, and validate policies and controls for protecting sensitive data, Lumigent said.

The Griffin-Spalding County school district in Griffin, Ga., deployed the SQL Server version of the product to check whether database discrepancies were caused by an application or by malicious activity. The application was found to be the primary source, with no maliciousness detected thus far, said Jason Brown, manager of information systems for the district.

The district is also using Entegra to automate data changes to a transportation route application known as Versatrans. “It automatically emails our Versatrans data clerk and sends her that data so she gets it in real time,” Brown said.

Alternatives to Entegra, Haight said, have included database triggers, which tax performance, or application modifications, which is not always possible with third-party applications.

The upcoming release of Entegra for Oracle will work with the 8i and 9i versions of the data management platform on Solaris and Windows. Hewlett-Packard HP-UX systems will be supported later in the year, as well as AIX and Linux.

Lumigent plans to release a version for IBM DB2 next year, and is pondering a release for the MySQL database as well, Haight said.

Entegra for Oracle pricing begins at $20,000 for a single-server base system, including a management console and report server. Subsequent servers start at additional $10,000 depending on configuration.
