New DataExchange product, partnership, acquisition offer mainframe access, ETL

Tibco was busy in March. The integration vendor acquired ObjectStar for data integration on the mainframe and partnered with Embarcadero Technologies to license DT/Studio for ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) capabilities.

Using DT/Studio, Tibco on Monday plans to issue DataExchange, its updated BusinessWorks integration platform providing access to more data sources.

The vision is to take data integration to the next level by adding predictive capabilities, said Aiaz Kazi, general manger of Tibco’s Business Integration and Enterprise Backbone. “If I see a pattern or if sets of events mean margins are going down, I now have the option of running another promotion,” he said.

Josh Greenbaum, principal analyst at Enterprise Applications Consulting, said DataExchange is reminiscent of what’s being done by rivals Informatica and Ascential, which was recently bought by IBM.

“They are trying to pull under a single umbrella a set of integration tools so companies have an enterprisewide view of their integration requirements,” Greenbaum said.
