Secure memory card with 1GB capacity can be directly plugged into a computer LAS VEGAS — SanDisk has developed an SD (Secure Digital) memory card that includes a built-in USB connector so the card can be directly plugged into a computer, it said on Friday at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The card has a hinge in the center and folds back on itself to reveal a thin USB (Universal Serial Bus) connector. The card, which was designed in-house by SanDisk, removes the need for an SD card adapter and is compatible with any operating system that recognizes USB Mass Storage devices. The interface is USB 2.0.SanDisk’s prototype, which was on show at CES, has a 1GB capacity. The cards are expected to become available in the second quarter of this year, said a company spokeswoman. SanDisk will announce pricing details later this quarter, she said. Technology Industry
