Features will include mobile support

Iona Technologies this week announced an upgrade to its ESB (enterprise service bus), Artix 3.0, featuring mobile support and new development-tools options.

Shipping in late April, Artix 3.0 is positioned as an enterprise-level offering that integrates application services through Web services. Iona considers its ESB to be a run time for deploying SOAs (service-oriented architectures).

Artix allows for communication via service-enabled end points. Its new mobile capabilities enable mobile devices to share enterprise data via the ESB. To expand development-tools options, the Artix user interface can be deployed via a plug-in to any Eclipse-based IDE. Also, support for .Net remoting enables Visual Studio developers to build applications for Artix, Iona CTO Eric Newcomer said.

Iona’s approach to the ESB differs from Sonic Software’s, said Shawn Willett, an analyst at Current Analysis. “Unlike Sonic, it’s not based on a messaging engine,” he said.
