Sony will launch new VGN-FS series Vaio notebooks aimed at business customers Sony plans to make a push for European small and medium-size business PC users with new Vaio PCs and a revamped European partner Web site, the company announced Wednesday at Cebit.Cebit officially starts on Thursday, but Sony held a press conference for members of the international media to highlight its recent performance in Europe and outline some of the strategies it will employ in Europe this year.Starting in the second quarter, Sony will launch new VGN-FS series Vaio notebooks aimed at business customers. The new notebooks will come with Sony’s X-black LCD (liquid crystal display) technology, which improves the image quality of standard notebook displays, according to the company. Also in the second quarter, Sony will offer business customers in France, Germany, and the U.K. a premium warranty program that will identify a repair time for nonworking systems, it said.Sony’s partners also have a new Web site helping them to deliver these new products and services to businesses. Chris Deering, president of Sony Europe, announced the Sony1.net partner portal at the press conference. Partners will be able to log into the Web site (http://www.sony1.net) and access a wide variety of information and training resources, he said.Sony is showcasing a wide variety of its consumer products at its enormous booth, including new Walkman MP3 players announced Tuesday. Wolfdieter Greiss, managing director of Sony Germany, revealed a business-card size Cybershot digital camera during his comments to the media. At its thinnest point, the Cybershot T7 measures 9.8 millimeters thick. It takes 5.1-megapixel photos and a 2.5-inch LCD screen. Pricing or distribution information was not immediately available.
