Indian R&D center is involved in the development of key BEA products lines

BANGALORE, INDIA — BEA Systems announced Wednesday that it plans to double the number of employees at its research and development (R&D) center in Bangalore, India.

The center currently employs about 180 staffers, which will be doubled in the next one year or so, said Shailender Kumar, BEA’s country head for India.

BEA, a San Jose, California-based vendor of Java middleware, has about 1,200 staff in R&D worldwide, spread across three centers in the U.S., and one center each in India, Sweden, and China, Kumar added.

The R&D center in Bangalore is involved in the development of key BEA products lines, including its WebLogic server and the company’s new AquaLogic line of service infrastructure products for managing the SOA (service-oriented architecture) lifecycle in heterogeneous environments, said Bhavin Sheth, engineering manager of the center.

The center also has about 60 staffers offering product support to BEA customers and partners, Kumar said.
