Microsoft announces $100 discount and one year of free support for 2006 software In a bid to woo small businesses, Microsoft announced Monday a $100 discount and one year of free support for customers who purchase its Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006 software.Small Business Accounting is a software package designed for companies with up to 25 employees. The software includes accounting, inventory, sales and purchase order tracking, and payroll functions. Data can be imported into Small Business Accounting from either Microsoft Excel or rival Intuit Inc.’s QuickBooks software, Microsoft said in a statement.Microsoft is offering the $100 discount to U.S. customers who purchase Small Business Accounting before April 30 from retail stores participating in the program, including Best Buy, CompUSA, Office Depot, Staples, and OfficeMax. In its statement, Microsoft did not disclose the expected retail price of Small Business Accounting after the $100 discount. According to Amazon.com Inc.’s Web site, its list price is $179.99. However, with discounts and a $30 mail-in rebate from Microsoft, the software is priced at $39.99 on Amazon.com. Software Development
