XARA ONLINE THIS week announced the second release of its Xara Modules, designed as a rapid application development system for Web services. Xara Modules is offered as an online, subscription-based service. Each module is an XML Web service and the environment provides a way to connect them for Web applications. The offering is intended as a development system for Web masters and non-programmers. Applications such as database, e-mail, and content management systems can be built. There are two collections of modules, Data Manager and SMS (Short Message Service) Manager. Data Manager is comprised of the following modules: Form, Database, Query, Database Writer, Mailer, and Reporter. SMS Manager features Web2SMS Module and the Web2SMS Module. SMS is for text messaging on mobile phones and is widely used in places such as Europe and Asia, a Xara spokesperson said. Both Data Manager and SMS Manager cost $24.95 per month or $249 annually.
