IN A DEAL designed to bolster its outsourced messaging portfolio, Agilera announced on Wednesday that it has acquired United Messaging Inc. (UMI) for an undisclosed amount of cash. An application service provider (ASP) offering outsourced JD Edwards, PeopleSoft, and Lawson software for enterprises, as part of the acquisition Agilera will add UMI’s hosted Lotus Notes and iPlanet e-mail and collaboration services technology to its existing Microsoft Exchange messaging practice, said Rob Unger, CEO of Englewood, Colo.-based Agilera. Unger said Agilera’s push toward profitability is “well within reach” and the UMI purchase should expedite that process. Located in Malvern, Penn., UMI is an ASP as well, offering its flagship MessageControl service featuring virus scanning, content, and message screening. Agilera and UMI are privately owned companies.
