x46 chips run at 2.0GHz, feature 1 MB L2 cache

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) completed the rollout of a group of new Opteron chips Tuesday, adding the Opteron 146 and Opteron 846 to its lineup.

AMD released the Opteron 246 in July, and was expected to release the Opteron 146 for one-way servers and workstations and the Opteron 846 for servers with up to eight processors shortly thereafter.

The x46 chips run at 2.0GHz, and come with 1M byte of Level 2 cache. AMD also makes Opteron chips at three slower speeds.

The new Opteron 146 costs $669 in 1,000-unit quantities, and the Opteron 846 costs $3,199 in 1,000-unit quantities. The Opteron 146 is immediately available, and systems with the chip are also immediately available. The Opteron 846 is available immediately in servers built by system builders participating in AMD’s Validated Server Program.
