Venture to focus on digital media, IT startups IBM Corp. has joined NTT DoCoMo Inc. as a first-round investor in a venture capital fund that targets digital media and information technology start-ups in China, the fund’s managers said Tuesday.The two companies together with Goldbond Group Holdings Ltd., a Hong Kong-based financial services company, have participated in the initial US$30 million funding round for the Gobi Fund, Shanghai-based Gobi Partners Inc. said in a statement. The fund is expected to close in the second quarter of 2004 with investments of $75 million.NTT DoCoMo said earlier this month that it had invested $10 million in the fund in the hopes of gaining a both a reasonable return and the ability to develop new businesses and technical tie-ups with Chinese companies.
