Work will focus on mobile information systems

NEC Corp.’s new China research and development center was officially opened on Monday, the company said in a statement.

The center is in the Tsinghua Science Park in Beijing, which was established by Tsinghua University, and will be headed by Hsueh Min Yu. Around 30 Chinese engineers will be recruited to work at the center during its first year in operation and there are expected to be around 100 engineers present within three years, said NEC.

Work at NEC Laboratories China will center on mobile information systems for the next-generation Internet in the China market, the Tokyo company said.

Recently chipmaker Intel Corp. announced plans to establish a new research and development center in Beijing. The center, which will be operated with local computer maker Legend Group Ltd., will work on secure computing and next-generation Internet technologies for the Chinese market.
