Version 3 of UDDI proposed

Version 3 of UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration), the industry’s Web services directory technology, is now available in a beta release, according to the UDDI Business Registry Operators Council.

The council is supported by companies such as IBM, Microsoft, and SAP.

UDDI is intended to enable companies and applications to easily find and use Web services. Key features in Version 3 include user-defined keys for creating human-readable values for keys based on domain names; digital signature support, enabling establishment of veracity of data registered in a UDDI Business Registry; and portable keys, for copying keys between registries and enabling registries to import information from others.

IBM, Microsoft, and SAP will provide UDDI V.3 beta nodes. The Operators Council documents and submits experience with beta implementations to the OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards) Specification Technical Committee to help refine and improve the UDDI V.3 specification. OASIS has final jurisdiction over the UDDI specification.
