CONTENT MANAGEMENT VENDOR Vignette on Monday announced it joined Web Services Interoperability Organization (WS-I), a cross-industry group designed to promote Web services interoperability across platforms, applications, and programming languages. WS-I was formed earlier this year by nine companies including IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, and BEA. The organization’s members now number about 125. Vignette said it initially plans to join the WSBasic Profile working group, which is focused on giving guidance for using existing XML-based standards such as SOAP, WSDL, and UDDI as a foundation for Web services, according to Vignette officials. Earlier this year Vignette introduced Web services support in its flagship content management system V6, and the company is working closely with IBM, Microsoft, and Sun Microsystems to integrate Vignette offerings with these vendors’ Web services tools and standards, Vignette said. The Austin, Texas-based company said it hopes to contribute its expertise in content management to advance the development of Web services.
