Unix backing is added to issue management software

Serena Software this week is shipping Serena TeamTrack 5.8, the first version of the issue and request management software released since Serena acquired TeamShare and took over development of the product.

TeamTrack is a Web-based offering for mapping, tracking, and enforcing business processes down to the task level in software development projects. It performs tasks such as defect tracking. The key new feature in Version 5.8 is it can be deployed on a Unix platform, specifically Sun Microsystems’ Solaris OS.

“TeamTrack allows you to [add] a configurable workflow to change management, and that’s where the power lies,” said Summer Ficarrotta, a product development director at Serena.

Additionally, an API links TeamShare to Serena’s ChangeMan ZMF, which automates changes to mainframe applications. Serena’s ChangeMan software automates software processes including version control, release management, and build management.

Serena acquired TeamShare in June for $18 million, to extend the company’s capabilities in application life cycle management.

Serena this fall plans more full integration between TeamShare and ChangeMan ZMF, enabling processes in each package to recognize each other.
