LOGICLIBRARY THIS WEEK updated its core product aimed at providing an easier way to search and retrieve enterprisewide software assets such as source code, components, models, and Web services. Available now, Logidex 1.4 includes several enhancements to its software development asset discovery and mapping engine, including Web services features, single sign-on, and a new asset viewer that allows the “casual user” to search, browse, and retrieve assets without having a formal user ID for Logidex. This limited scope access is key for organizations with large numbers of business analysts who need to look up a particular software asset but do not need to make use of such Logidex full-member privileges as collaborative discussion forums, e-mail notifications for asset changes, or the ability to save work, according to Brent Carlson, vice president of technology and co-founder of LogicLibrary and former founding architect of IBM’s precursor to WebSphere, the “San Francisco Project.” Logidex is aimed at developers needing to distill farflung software assets and make them more consumable for integrating into future applications; additionally, business architects can also tap the product to help define reference models for business processes, he said. Version 2 of the product, expected in the first quarter 2003, will include tighter integration with development environments such as Microsoft’s Visual Studio.Net, he added.
