CheckFree runs the technology for many of the financial-services providers on the Web. And to continue to offer cutting-edge service, McCoy is dealing with a dizzying set of evolving technologies and business partnerships to ensure security, customization, and customer retention. “Personally, I think the challenge is energizing,” McCoy says. “It’s an ever-changing business. Every year, the technology completely changes. I couldn’t have it any other way.” McCoy says that evolving relationships among billers is growing increasingly complicated. He says he is forging technology strategy to deal with credit card companies, banks, and enterprises that are establishing their own electronic billing systems — a heady mix of business plans. — J.M.
