Sybase pushes health care integration

SYBASE ON TUESDAY rolled out the latest iteration of its integration server for the health care industry, with new support for accepting data and process information from most mainstream packaged applications. Sybase’s e-Biz Impact 5.3 provides a single broker to handle the integration of commercial applications, such as those from PeopleSoft or SAP, and applications circulated via HL7 (Health Level 7), an EDI-like message definition system widely used by hospitals. In the past, two brokers were needed, company officials said. Using one broker also better marries electronically the two sides of the health care equation — providers and the insurance companies — which addresses a mandate found within the federal government’s HIPAA regulations. E-Biz Impact 5.3 also features improved logging and auditing of messages; new monitoring, security, and configuration GUIs; and the ability to use Sybase’s Process Server to handle government-related transactions. The integration server came to Sybase courtesy of application integration specialist New Era of Networks (NEON), which Sybase acquired in February 2001 as it tried to branch beyond its traditional database expertise into e-business-related technologies. E-Biz Impact 5.3 is available now, priced starting at $100,000.
