BEA, IBM, Microsoft, Tibco seek standard status for proposal

Microsoft, IBM, BEA Systems, and Tibco Software on Tuesday said they will submit the latest version of the WS-RM (Web Services ReliableMessaging) specification, featuring protocol and policy assertions, to OASIS for consideration as an OASIS standard.

Reliable messaging encompasses the ability to ensure that message exchange has been properly completed, the companies said. WS-RM, together with other Web services specifications pertaining to security, policy, transactions, and coordination, can help provide a more secure, scalable approach to reliable messaging, according to the vendors.

The co-authors also proposed formation of a technical committee and charter to enable further review and industry collaboration on WS-RM.

“WS-RM extends both the reliability and reach of a messaging backbone beyond the enterprise and over the Internet,” said Matt Quinn, vice president of product strategy at Tibco, in a prepared statement.

WS-RM was first proposed in March 2003.
