Systems have new chipset, RAID Hewlett-Packard (HP) announced two new eight-way servers in its HP ProLiant DL700 series with a new chipset and RAID (redundant array of independent disks) memory, the company said in a release Monday.The HP ProLiant DL740 and DL760 use the HP F8 chipset, which features support for symmetric multiprocessing and is compatible with industry standard I/O technologies such as PCI-X (peripheral component interconnect – extended) and Gigabit Ethernet. The two servers run Xeon MP processors from Intel.The RAID dual in-line memory modules can be added and replaced while the server is up and running, which increases the levels of fault tolerance the server can handle, said HP, based in Palo Alto, Calif. The servers are available Monday, and estimated U.S. prices start at $24,999 for the ProLiantDL740, and $27,999 for the HP ProLiant DL760.
