Mac OS support is added Hoping to boost speed and ease of use, Eclipse.org on Monday released an improved version of its Eclipse open-source tools platform that features workbench navigation features and user-configurable key binding.Version 2.1 contains upgraded Java development tools with a new editor and debugger. It also now includes support for the Mac OS platform along with its current support for AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Solaris, and Windows operating systems.While the organization is now working on the next major release of the platform, officials said they felt it necessary to ship Version 2.1 of the technology in response to demands from developers. “While our sights are on the future version of Eclipse Platform, we wanted to provide some useful enhancements to the R2 code base,” said John Wiegand, Eclipse project lead. “We want to make sure we retain platform stability and upward compatibility for the larger community that is releasing plug-ins based on R2,” he said.The organization also announced that five new members have joined which include Ericsson, Fraunhofer/Fokus, LogicLibrary, QA Systems and SilverMark, bringing to 34 the number of members.
