Open source offering is built for enterprise apps MySQL on Monday announced its MaxDB open source database, which is a re-branded version of the SAP DB database.The database is tailored for large ERP environments and other applications that require enterprise-level functionally, MySQL said. MySQL acquired rights to develop and market future releases of SAP DB through a cross-licensing partnership announced in May. MaxDB technology has been certified for SAP applications and includes features such as stored procedures, triggers, and views.The first release of MaxDB, Version 7.5.00.05, represents a continuation of the code line in SAP DB Version 7.4, MySQL said. Version 7.5.00.06 of the database, now available in alpha release for Linux and Windows, features snapshots, archive tables, and MaxDB replication. With MySQL 7.5.00.6, users can build applications using both MySQL and MaxDB databases together. MySQL also has released an alpha development version of MySQL Proxy, software for boosting interoperability between MaxDB and MySQL databases.MaxDB is being offered under a MySQL “dual license” business model. The offering will be provided at no cost under a free software/open source GNU General Public License or for a commercial license at $49 per named user on a single-CPU system with a minimum of five users.
