MAGIC SOFTWARE ENTERPRISES is debuting support for Web services development with the release of eDeveloper Version 9.2, officials said this week. The upgrade supports emerging Web Services standards such as SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and WSDL (Web Services Description Language). Applications created with eDeveloper will feature integration with J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) application servers such as IBM’s WebSphere, said Magic officials. “[Microsoft] .Net support is not included in this release,” said Glenn Johnson, director of marketing at Magic, “but it’s planned for a future release this year.” The current release is targeted at providing Web services for back-end ERP suites, legacy applications, CRM systems, and customized programs. Web services are a good fit for these kinds of applications because they efficiently handle “repetitive, data changing” tasks such as postal code look-ups, Johnson said. The kit will also help users adapt Web services to tiered, client/server environments as well as to online or browser modes for migrating and integrating data within a multidatabase environment, officials said. Headquartered in Or Yehuda, Israel, Magic’s North American office is in Irvine, Calif.
